UPDATE: My supplements have changed. Updated supplements coming soon.
Hey everyone! I thought this would be the right time to share the supplements I take daily (or every other day) because my body is currently feeling very balanced. I feel strong, healthy and happy and I’m sure it has a lot to do with what I’m taking, as well as my lifestyle choices. These are my 4 favorite supplements, in no particular order.
- L-Methylfolate- this one is interesting and I’ve been taking it for 4 years now. Basically what happened was about 4 years ago I went to my psychiatrist because I was feeling down. I thought it might have had something to do with the life situation I was in at the time, which was very stressful. I’m sure that played a large role in my mood at the time but my psychiatrist then asked me if I had ever taken a test to see if my body had a mutation in the MTHFR gene, which would limit my body’s ability to create L-Methylfolate. I hadn’t so I of course agreed to take the test, which was as simple as a mouth swab and then mailing my results into a lab. When we received the results back it turned out I did in fact have the mutation. Since L-methylfolate plays an important role in making neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which help regulate mood, it’s no wonder I was feeling down. She then prescribed me to 15mg of L-methylfolate and I started taking it daily. The downside is that it is expensive and it’s never covered by insurance. The plus side is I feel so much better when I take it. I later went to see a nutritionist who told me to, “pulse” it. Meaning, to take it every other day or every two days. I liked that option because at times I did feel like I was taking too much. I think that your body will always let you know what’s right for you, you just have to listen to it.
- Alani Nu Balance- This one is new for me. I have been taking it for almost 3 weeks now but I already love the difference it has made in my sleep and mood. This product is strategically designed to support hormonal balance, weight management, clear complexion, and fertility. So basically it’s a supplement used to improve women’s overall hormonal health. Some also say it helps with PMS and cramps, but i’ve never had an issue with that so I can’t say if it helped me or not. The only downside is that you have to take 4 pills daily which freaks me out. SO much so I actually DM Alani Nu instagram account and asked if I can take just 1 or 2 pills daily, as if I needed permission haha. Surprisingly, they got back to me within the hour. I thought hat was cool because they have over 350k followers. Anyway, they said that starting off with 1-2 pills daily is fine and that I can work my way up. I’m personally not going to work my way up and stay at just 2 pills daily, but I’m sure 4 pills a day is fine. Like I mentioned before, I can sense what works for my body, I just need to listen to it.
- Olly Laser Focus Gummies- this one makes me laugh because when I was in college I was prescribed to adderall to help me focus. Although it worked for me at the time, I knew it was very bad for me and stopped taking it soon after college. So I guess Olly focus gummies have, in a sense taken the place of adderall for me. The surprising thing is that they actually work for me, but I know others who have said it does nothing. Nonetheless I’m addicted and take them daily.
- Ritual Prenatal- I’ve written about this one before. This prenatal has just 12 ingredients and lists where all of them are sourced. I’m a subscriber so I get a bottle every month. Super easy, no hassle and free shipping. I personally feel like I’m getting a lot of what I need from this prenatal. I’ve had other prenatals that were wonderful too, but I had to take too many pills daily and they made me nauseous. With ritual I just take 2 daily and they never make me sick.
Everyone’s body is different and you need to find the supplements that are right for you. I have a gene mutation and that’s why I take L-methylfolate. I also have trouble focusing and that’s why I take My Olly focus gummies, etc. The best thing one can do is take a blood test and see what they are deficient in (if anything) and then supplement that deficiency before it becomes life threatening. I personally love getting my blood test results back so I can see what I need to change in my diet. I hope this motivates you all to re evaluate your supplements and reach you health goals.
I’m not a medical professional I’m just sharing what works for me. Always consult with a doctor when you are starting a new supplement.
